This article is continuation to a previous article "Maritime Intelligence Hunt" by Ulla Keino March 12 2017.

May 18, 2017 SeaFocus organizes in co-operation with Finnish Science Centre Heureka, a one-day student Challenge Battle called Intelligence Hunt and the Student Registration has kicked off.

We want to find future talents with skills of engineering, information technology, international business, marketing and sales, finance, legal and design just to name some. The students may register themselves as candidates to apply to the challenge battle. The number of final candidates is max 50. As some of the cases require understanding of commercial, technical and even legal aspects, an optimal team would be a hybrid formed by students from different faculties.

Heureka chooses the finalist students to participate in the challenge battle and provides the event with its highly inspirational environment. SeaFocus has invited the four dynamic industry speakers to kick-off the event with an inspiration boost and companies with challenge cases.

The students will have a possibility to make one-month research and find solutions to the given Challenge Cases by the participating companies. In the event May 18, the Intelligence Hunt, the teams are given the opportunity to work on their final presentations, and pitch their proposed solutions in front of the Jury. The event is to be high level, entertaining, inspiring and a lot of fun to all participants.

The Key Note speaker is the Managing Director of the Finnish Shipowners' Association to be Ms Tiina Tuurnala (starting 1.4.2017). The three other speakers to emphasize the importance of higher education and to tell about the career possibilities in this industry are Mr Thomas Doepel, Head of Finnlines Group Purchasing and Member of Executive Commitee, Ms Marthe Lamp Sandvik, Head of YoungShip Oslo, and Mr Håkan Fagerström, Director Cargo Services, Tallink Silja.

INDUSTRY CHALLENGE CASES WITH AN AMAZING VARIATY OF OUT-OF-THE-BOX-THINKING

The Challenge cases touch a variety of business development areas and innovations. We will hear about challenges in lean management and planning the low and high season business models, to value added sales and utilising 4PL in marine logistics. We will hear challenges about how to handle big data, utilise telecommunication, optimisation and artificial intelligence. We want to find alternative ideas for business models from traditional asset sales to selling a product as a service, how to analyse and compare energy efficiency and even how to enter the marine industry with a product popular in the B2C.

The following entities and companies provide the Challenge Cases: The Finnish Transport Agency, Finnlines, Bore, Norsepower, Kuehne+Nagel, Deltamarin, EVAC, Nanol Technologies, Climeon, TallinkSilja, Aker Arctic Technology, Steerprop and LedZed.

We thank all of the speakers and companies with Challenge Cases, who will come and participate this new kind of an event for this wonderful opportunity to our future business intelligence forces.
