ULLA KEINO, CEO, Chairman of the Board, SeaFocus

Opening Speech

Ulla Keino has a variable career over 30 years in supply chain management and logistics, and her knowledge of global value chains covers all product types from lipsticks  to car tyres, from Masters’ paintings to copy machines, from tractors to laptops. Ms Keino is specialized in turning challenges into opportunities, seeing problems as reasons to stop, think and to find a solution.

SeaFocus represents all that Ms Keino believes in. Dynamic group of entrepreneurs and partners, looking for win win – better maritime for the future to serve all parties in the value chain. She is the Managing Director and Chairman of the Board of SeaFocus as well as the majority shareholder. She holds a MSc.Techn. degree from the University of Technology Helsinki from 1990, and an MBA from Brunel University from 1993 and is highly motivated to encourage young people and the business professionals to further studies.

MARKKU MYLLY, Executive Director, European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA), Lisbon, Portugal

Chairman of the Jury

Markku Mylly has a long experience in the maritime sector since 1973. He was sailing in Finnish merchants ships until 1987, when he joined Finnish Maritime Administration. He worked in FMA until 2010 and he was the 10th and last Director General of FMA. In 2010 he moved to Finnish Port Association and worked there as a CEO until joined EMSA in 2012 September. Mr Mylly collaborated a lot at international level ever since he joined FMA and he was responsible for many EU Twinning projects during years 2002 – 2010 in Estonia, Croatia and Bulgaria. He also participated the work of IMO (International Maritime organisation) IALA (International Association of Lighthouse Authorities) and ESPO (European Seaports Organisation)

HÅKAN FAGERSTRÖM, Group Head of Cargo, Tallink Grupp AS, Helsinki, Finland

Member of the Jury

Håkan Fagerström is a results driven Executive with experience in leading a Stevedores Company, Marine Operations, Cargo Operations, Cargo Sales & Marketing. Starting 1.5.2017 he was appointed as a Group Head of Cargo of Tallink Grupp.

He graduated from Maritime University in Turku (Captain, Maritime) in 2000 and continued his studies at Aalto University 2011 from where he graduated as EMBA in 2013. At this moment Håkan is a DBA 2017 candidate at Aalto University aiming for a Doctoral Degree in Business Administration.

ULLA TAPANINEN, Adjunct Professor PhD, Senior Advisor, City of Helsinki, Finland

Member of the Jury

Ulla Tapaninen has over 25 years of experience in logistics and transport research and development work with dozens of academic and professional publications to her name. She has worked for ten years as a development manager and environmental manager in a large Finnish roro-shipping company Finnlines plc. Between 2006 and 2012 she worked as a professor of maritime logistics in the University of Turku specializing in maritime and port operations, safety and IT. She has worked as a researcher, project director and board member in dozens of national and EU-funded projects in the areas of maritime and land transportation, logistics information handling and transportation safety and environment. She is a board member of ESL Shipping since 2012 and a chairman of the board of Finnish Logistics Forum which nominates the most distinguished persons and academic works in the area of logistics in Finland.

MANUEL KRONSEDER, Engineer, Valmet Technologies, Helsinki, Finland

Manuel Kronseder is a former two-time Intelligence Hunt finalist, who shows that curiosity and enthusiasm don’t have to be limited to one kind of industry or field. He has worked for example in one of the biggest producers of premium cars but was also a consultant for a global leader of water management systems for the maritime industry. His studies brought him to Finland where he is now working as an Engineer at the leading global developer and supplier of technologies, automation and services for paper and energy industries. Besides this knowledge he can offer 26 years of life experience and owns a M.Sc in automotive engineering from the Technische Universität Ilmenau in Germany.

FRANK KHO, Senior Advisor, Kho Management BV, Rotterdam, the Netherlands

Member of the Jury

Frank Kho was earlier working as a Global Head, Market Intelligence, Strategy and Development at Kalmar, the Netherlands. As member of the Kalmar Leadership Team, he was responsible for Market Intelligence, Strategy and Offering development at Kalmar.

Mr. Kho has over 20 years of industry experience in several senior management positions at world's leading port operators, such as the Antwerp terminals of PSA and several terminals of HPH. He headed container operations with significant operational efficiencies in cost per unit moved and, most notably, with improved service levels. Mr. Kho has an outstanding track record in terminal management at leading ports throughout Europe and Asia, where he has championed operational efficiency and cost reduction strategies, terminal design and team development.

LENA RIDSTRÖM, Independent Business Coach, Sweden

Lena Ridström has a broad experience from leading roles at global ERP/SCM software companies for the last 25 years. Having had positions such as Sales Director at IFS, CEO at UnitedLog and Primelog, Founder and CEO at Axido. Main customer challenges have been to digitize manual work processes when it comes to creating visibility and cost efficiency in the supply chain, keep control of supply chain financials, analyzing big data and standardizing the integration of different ERP’s. Ms Ridström holds a Master degree of Business Administration from Linköping University, Sweden and works as business coach for startups in the tech industry. Ms Ridström also works as a board member and holds board positions in Oriola, Seal FX and Capacent.

Dr ANDERS BERGER, Ph.D., Director Public Affairs, Volvo Group, Sweden

Inspiring SCM ndustry Speaker

Dr. Anders Berger is Transport Solution Specialist at Volvo Group focusing transport effectiveness concepts and total customer solutions related to the environmental and efficiency challenges of the road transport system. He contributes extensively in setting the national and international research agendas and roadmap process e.g. within the European Road Transport Research Advisory Council (ERTRAC), providing input to the EU Framework Programs in the areas of Long Distance Freight Transport and Urban Mobility. One main focus is cross-functional coordination across the Volvo Group truck and bus brands and to engage in the public discourse in the areas of transport efficiency, e-mobility, automation and connectivity. Anders holds a Ph.D from Chalmers University of Technology.

UWE BECK, CEO, BeCon Projects GmbH, Germany

Uwe Beck is holding a Master’s Degree of Control/Automation Technology of the Technical University of Darmstadt – Germany. He started his career in the Air Cargo industry in 1979 as a Software-Automation Engineer being involved in various Air Cargo Handling System projects and implementations. During his career he had taken several leading positions in the Air Cargo Industry and was responsible for world-wide general manager Air Cargo Handling Systems for Loedige Industries. As a Managing Director for ALS certain major Air Cargo Hubs being developed, like in Dubai as well as the new Thai Airways Cargo Centre at Survarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok.

2009 Mr.Beck established BeCon Projects as one of the leading Air Cargo Consulting companies for Air Cargo facilities, providing detailed analyses for air cargo terminal performance; custom tailored engineering & IT solutions as well as conceptual architectural designs for air-cargo terminals. Major projects are the new Finnair Cargo COOL Hub in Helsinki and the new freighter cargo terminal of Emirates Cargo at DWC, Dubai.

Besides consulting on the design of air-cargo terminals, BeCon Projects is well positioned to perform operational process reviews & process re-engineering, introducing new IT technologies into existing GHA/Air Cargo warehouse environments and to provide entire project management services from the design stage till operational readiness.

ENDRE LEKVEN, MacGregor Ro-Ro Sweden

Endre Lekven has a variable career over 30 years in the maritime industry, spanning from sea going experience to multiple leading roles ashore for major ro-ro companies like Wallenius Wilhelmsen, Eukor Car Carriers and Hoegh Autoliners. Mr Lekven is specialised in maritime operational efficiency with focus on Ro-Ro and PCTC operations. He headed global operational efficiency for Wallenius Wilhelmsen with significant results in cost per unit moved and, most notably, with improved service levels. Mr. Lekven has an outstanding track record in operational efficiency  for global shipping companies, where he has championed operational efficiency and cost reduction strategies based on port and operation analytics. Mr. Lekven has also developed the new Macgregor Voyage and port optimiser system which will revolutionise how the shipping lines manage port operations and suppliers.

IRENE ROSBERG, Director of the Executive MBA in Shipping and Logistics (The Blue MBA), Copenhagen Business School (CBS)

Inspiring Education Industry Speaker

Irene Rosberg is widely recognised as commanding enormous respect throughout the maritime and logistics sectors internationally for her work in executive education, research in identifying future challenges for industry, and building global relationships. She has high-level contacts in many of the leading organisations in her field, including excellent professional relationships in Europe, in Asia including China, and in Latin America.

From the beginning, she has been responsible for the design, development and co-ordination of The Blue MBA. On behalf of CBS, she has a fundamental role in building global relationships and networks within the maritime industry. She also promotes research identifying challenges and future issues for the maritime industry as a whole.  She is a member of many international boards and committees.  Based on her extensive international network and experience, she has been entrusted with major roles in varied maritime-related activities, and speaks at leading maritime events. 

ESKO MUSTAMÄKI, CEO, Arctech Helsinki Shipyard

Esko Mustamäki graduated from Helsinki University of Technology in 1984 with MSc in Engineering and Shipbuilding and he has held several management level positions within the maritime sector.

He was employed by Wärtsilä Marine in 1980 and after that he has been employed by F-G Shipping Inc., Finnlines Plc, Finstaship and SET-Group Ltd.  

Since April 2011 Mr Mustamäki has worked as Managing Director for Arctech Helsinki Shipyard, a shipyard founded in 2010 that specializes in building icebreakers and other Arctic offshore and special vessels.

PHILLIP TIPPING, Director, Customer Innovation, MacGregor RoRo Division, MacGregor Sweden AB

Phillip Tipping has a 10 year career in the army as an electrical mechanical engineer. After leaving the army, he moved to Sweden and, from humble beginnings, he demonstrated to subsequent employers that there was no new skill that he could not pick up through focus, diligence and an organised methodology.
Mr Tipping has now been with MacGregor, a company that tackles significant challenges in the marine and shipping industry, for 13 years. He has also demonstrated a talent for recognising similarly gifted individuals and bringing them into his team and they have all benefitted from the innate development and motivation which comes from working in the proactive, collaborative and positive environment he demands within his team.

Through roles as Control Systems manager, Business development in China, and Director - Customer Innovation, Mr Tipping has developed a skill-set which has proven to meet and overcome many of the challenges provided by the industry, but, more importantly, recognising the significant opportunities which these challenges present and has been a key influence in helping MacGregor to adapt to changing needs within the industry.​​

ANDREAS SLOTTE, Traffic Manager, Port of Helsinki​..

Andreas Slotte is a Captain & MBA student, 37 year old father of two. Mr Slotte works as a Traffic Manager at the Port of Helsinki. Spent two years on a contract in Russia running commercial projects in real estate.  As a senior specialist for finance and clearing was a member of  a Contract Engineer’s team supervising the construction of European Solidarity Center in Gdańsk. Since 2015 working in Port Development and Fund Acquisition Department of Port of Gdańsk Authority, responsible for acquiring and clearing EU funds.

Xavier De Meulder has over 25 years of extensive experience in marine and offshore operations worldwide. His careers spans a wide range of projects and operations in different maritime sectors such as heavy lift shipping, oil & gas as well as the renewable offshore energy sector. Recently, he just completed a major project as Marine Operations and Installation Manager for the first Offshore Windfarm in Finland.

A Master Mariner by trade, Mr. De Meulder holds a diploma in Nautical Sciences as well an Executive Masters in Business Administration from the University of Turku. He is also one of the few Accredited Vessel Inspectors for the International Maritime Contractor’s Association.

HUGO FERRAZ DE ALBUQUERQUE, SeaFocus, Finland

Hugo Ferraz de Albuquerque holds a bachelor diploma in Naval Engineer from the Polytechnical School of Engineers from Sao Paulo, Brazil. He has expertise of 5 years working in the major insurance companies as underwriter/risk manager in the Oil&Gas field. Pursuing to work in the maritime industry, he became a vessel operator in the largest Brazilian oil firm Petrobras which he had to deal daily with operational issues from negotiation of charter party with brokerage to specific technical matters of offloading with dynamic positioned vessels. Additionally he was closely dealing with class society and flag and Maritime authority in order to keep vessels fully operational. Mr Ferraz de Albuquerque has moved to Finland due to family reasons. He has started to study MBA in International Business program and was one of the finalists of the first intelligence hunt, from where he got to know SeaFocus. Currently he is a Seafocus trainee in marketing and sales and carries out special market analysis when needed. He reports to the SeaFocus CEO Ulla Keino.

HELI KOUKKULA-TEIXEIRA, Chief Operating Officer, SeaFocus , Finland

Heli Koukkula-Teixeira has over 20 years of experience in international project co-ordination and event management. She has worked several years for the Ministry of Transport and Communications of Finland as well as for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Finland as an important member of the coordinating groups of international development programmes. Furthermore, she has many years experience in organizing several international as well as national events, seminars and conferences from the idea to the implementation and co-operation with corporate and institutional bodies. Heli is a specialist in marketing and communications.
