MacGregor has developed a new unique system for improving port and voyage efficiency for RoRo vessels. MacGregor wants to extend the scope and accuracy of this system by looking for a solution that will give precise tracking and identifying of cargo onboard RoRo vessels taking into account the constraints of a large RoRo vessel and the complex cargo operations. MacGregor believes that a new cargo and tracking system would be a very valuable tool for the shipping lines to get accurate productivity measurements, automatic tally and stowage plans, identifying of correct cargo for correct vessel, space optimisation and many more benefits.
A group of 8 students from Universities of Strathclyde, Glasgow, University of Vaasa, Tampere University of Technology, Novia University of Applied Sciences, Åbo Akademi, Turku and Chalmers Technical University, Gothenburg are working on the case in two teams. The spring competition with the other 18 teams and with the other 8 companies is expected to be tough.
