Shipper’s Case Wins the #IntelligenceHunt4 Student and Company Competition

Intelligence Hunt 4 Finals was organised 14th November in Helsinki Port of Helsinki, Tallink Silja M/S Silja Symphony. Seven Company Cases and Student Teams were competing under a theme “SCM Our Way – Shipping and Customers’ Margins”. The core idea of the theme of the Intelligence Hunt 4 project was to elaborate what is the value addition of efficient shipping and supply chain management in a company strategy from market entry to customer experience.

An international student team “YR Skincare Beauties Russia” with students originating from Bangladesh, Nigeria, Finland and Russia, won the whole competition with a case “Yvonne Ryding Cosmetics Goes East – Case Study of a Market Entry Strategy to the Russian Market”. Yvonne Ryding, the owner of Yvonne Ryding Cosmetics, Miss Universe 1984, was introducing the audience the case idea and was extremely proud of her team winning after working on the case for 2,5 months.

Team leader Ferdous Alam Pathwary, from University of Jyväskylä, Finland, showed exceptional leadership skills as leading his team; Vivianne Lauslahti, from Oxford Brookes University, UK, Ayodele Makinde, from University of Eastern Finland, Joensuu and Valeria Poberezhnaya, Vladimir Syropyatov and Anastasia Orlovastudents from the Admiral Makarov State University of Maritime and Inland Shipping, St.Petersburg, to the victory. The team members were amazingly committed and organised throughout the project.

Intelligence Hunt 4 Jury lead by Ulla Tapaninen, from City of Helsinki, with Rolf Neise, HPMlog Project & Management Consultants GmbH, Blasco Majorana, Finnlines, and Henri Paukku, MacGregor, Ali Abdellaoui, University Strathclyde Glasgow, UK, Saiful Islam, Tampere University of Technology, Masinde Masinde and Robert Talling, Åbo Akademi University, Finland chose the winner based on the following criteria:

  • well-structured and analytic study behind the project

  • good inside knowledge of the customer/product needs and market expectation

  • accomplishment of the project tasks including definition of some of the implementation cost

Christer Antson, Vice Chairman of the Board of the Shipowners’ Foundation in Finland, represented the Foundation, which granted 3000 € award to the winner team for exceptional performance in the project. The members of the winner team will also be a part of the Jury of the Intelligence Hunt 5 Finals, which will take place in Oslo 7.6.2019 in conjunction with Nor-Shipping 2019 Trade Fair.
