Team B.E.S.T Won the Second Best Award in the Intelligence Hunt 5 Competition with Case by Maersk

Maersk sustainability strategy calls out four areas - climate change, inclusive trade, food loss and ship recycling - where Maersk through its business can pursue solutions and call for others to act. Since 2009 Maersk has been a signatory to the UN Global Compact and remain committed to operating in congruence with the UNGC principles on responsible business conduct.

Aiming at accelerating the transition to carbon neutral shipping, Marsk announced recently its goal to reach carbon neutrality by 2050. To achieve this goal, carbon neutral vessels must be commercially viable by 2030, and acceleration in new innovations and adaption of new technology is required.

Shipping needs to learn more about using biofuels in general, as one of the potential solutions that can be implemented in the short and medium term. Thus Maersk focused on its case on question: Biofuels: A sustainable, safe and enforceable solution for maritime transport?

This assignment was given to the Student Team "B.E.S.T. - Biofuelled Energy on Shipping Technology" with Susanna Valenti from the University of Genoa, Italy, Daniil Furman from the Admiral Makarov State University of Maritime and Inland Shipping, Russia, Abubakar Hassan from the World Maritime University, Sweden, Jasmin Kaseva from the Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences, the Netherlands and Masha Tishkovskaya from the National University Odessa Maritime Academy, Ukraine.

The award was to become a jury member for the next edition of Intelligence Hunt, Finals of which will be held in conjunction with #NaviGate2020 January 22nd in Turku, Finland.

Simon Bergulf, the Director of Regulatory Affairs at A.P. Møller - Maersk, represented the company at the competition.
