Alyona Bolshakova, Intelligence Hunt Finalist and SeaFocus Trainee, is currently working for Ahlers Russia, in St Petersburg office. Ahlers is an international logistics company, focusing on complex markets like Russia, CIS countries and China with four different business units: Projects and Machinery, Trade Facilitation and After Sales Services, High Value Cargo Security and Sustainable Supply Chain Solutions. Alyona started as an intern few weeks ago under the business unit "Projects and Machinery".
"This summer is the productive one as I started my internship with Ahlers. My work includes various steps of the shipping process: from a commercial proposal to finalizing after sale documentation as invoices, acts and transport documents. This makes my internship very useful for me. I utilise my knowledge gained from the university and I am able to apply it into the real work processes. Moreover, I get to see the whole picture of logistics and value added services related to it and I can fill all blank spaces I have in my own current knowledge and expertise.", says Alyona.

Ayodele Makinde, also a SeaFocus Trainee, is currently fully employed as a biogeochemist research assistant in the University of Eastern Finland. He and his group of professionals are working on the emission of ‘gases’ from the horse paddock and other fields soil samples, in reference to agricultural practices. This is an interesting and challenging subject because, there is a wide knowledge gap in this research study, and the fact that horses are becoming more popular in Finland has sparked the interests of researchers to dig more into environmental information.
"Our focus is on HONO, Greenhouse gases (GHGs) and VOCs emission. The aim of our research is to publish the result for public reference. I have learnt so much since the beginning of this research work and I look forward to completing my analysis and write-ups, so that we can serve the public with these outstanding results. This research study is also my master’s degree thesis project," says Ayodele
We are very proud of our Trainees. Yelyzaveta Levytska is one of them. She has started now as a chartering trainee at Varamar, which is a shipping company specialized in transportation of heavy, oversized cargo, steels and bulk with offices in Odessa, Hamburg, Genoa, Dubai, Limassol and Vancouver.
"The traineeship is very interesting as the owner hired people from a consulting agency, which helps companies with their strategic development. Their team created for us a special adaptation schedule that helps us improve our interpersonal skills as well as learn more about the company, its competitors and chartering in general. Additionally, the owner does lecturing. Those lectures help us learn more about each step made from receiving a cargo offer until its discharging in the port of destination", says Lisa
